This article really resonates with me, and I’m sure many other people with illness or disability. Pretty quickly, the ailment becomes all people see when they look at you. The disability is you.
Every time I go out, some kind, well-meaning, friend comments on how I’m ‘walking’ or ‘looking’ as if that somehow determines how ill I am.
Doing that reduces me to my ailments but I’m still the same person I was BEFORE I got sick – There’s so much more to me than my illnesses and disabilities, and I’d love to get a chance to share that with you!
